2020 - 2021 Winter Sports

We hope everyone has had a great start to the school year. Our winter sports season is here. Below, we have listed detailed information for each program. The dates listed are our target start/tryout dates. Please note that the start dates are subject to change and we will continue our effort to make decisions in the best interest of our student-athletes, coaches, and school community. We are limited in the number of teams we can offer per program at this time. Unfortunately, some of our sub-varsity teams will not have the opportunity to compete interscholasitcally. For these teams, we will focus on small group training and will continue developing our student-athletes.

Please remember that if you are planning to be a part of an athletic team for the 2020-21 school year, you must have a completed RegisterMyAthlete.com account. Complete directions on how parents can register can be found on our Athletic Website (www.nbpsathletics.org) under the Athletic Forms link. 2020 Athletic Season Update

This past Friday, August 14th the Florida High School Athletic Association held a Board of Directors Meeting to vote on a start date and plan for Fall Sports. The FHSAA has identified August 24th as the earliest start date for fall sports, but has given schools the opportunity to utilize a calendar that best suits the needs of their community. Schools are not required to start on any specific date, therefore each school will select a time frame with the health and safety of their institution in mind. We are currently working on a plan that will provide the safest environment for our student-athletes, staff, and families.

Starting Monday, August 24th we will begin voluntary on campus athletic workouts for high school (9-12) student-athletes. As we return to training, we will begin with outdoor workouts in small groups. If you are interested in participating you must be sure to REGISTER HERE no later than 12:00pm on Thursday (Aug. 20) and must have a completed RegisterMyAthlete.com account (all required athletic forms & videos). Groups and session times will be assigned and distributed to all participants prior to Monday. If you have any questions, please contact our Director of Sports Performance, John Garrish, at john.garrish@nbps.org.

2020 FALL SPORTS UPDATE

As stated in our message communicated to the NBPS community on Wednesday, July 22, North Broward Prep has a fall sports date of no earlier than August 24th. This date aligns with the FHSAA who revisited the fall sports calendar and voted to mandate August 24th as the earliest start date for all Fall Sports. The Board of Directors for the FHSAA will reconvene prior to August 18th to determine if the start date will remain on the 24th or if they feel it is best to postpone to a later date. Once we receive the updated information we will create a plan that will provide the safest environment for our student-athletes, staff, and families. We will be sure to continue to update you on any changes that are made to the fall sports calendar. Summer Workouts are scheduled to start virtually on Monday, June 8th! Please fill out this Google Form to express interest in the summer program and provide the time(s) you are available to train. Please select all of the times you have available so that Coach Garrish can organize the groups accordingly.

Emphasis: Speed and Sprint-Specific Technical Development

I will send out a weekly request for submission of a sprinting video of yourself to be performed whenever you have the time, on whatever surface you have available to you. Once I receive the videos I’ll review your technique and send it back to you with some things to work on, just like I would if we were together!

Friday: Locomotive Plyometric Training on Your Own
I’ll send you a plyometric workout to perform on your own. Locomotive Plyometrics are movements like Power Skips, Gallops and Bounds that help develop overall athleticism. If you can, I’d suggest you do these drills on a grassy area outside but first and foremost be safe and comfortable!! I’ll have alternatives if you do not feel comfortable going outside.
